A Mindful Journey Through Shabbat: One-day retreat

Please join us for an all-day retreat that will open your heart and feed your soul. Rabbi Sheila Peltz Weinberg and Rabbi Myriam Klotz are inspiring teachers and pioneers in the Jewish contemplative movement who creatively and joyfully blend mindfulness, yoga and Jewish spiritual practice. Both Rabbis Weinberg and Klotz are founders and teachers at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality.

We will also be joined by local teachers, Rabbis Jill Zimmerman, Wendy Spears, Ken Chasen and Rachel Timoner and Cantors Linda Kates and Ken Cohen.

Our day will be filled with:   Jewish mindfulness practices including meditation and yoga, silence and dialogue, music and learning, sharing a meal and making new friends.

  • No experience in meditation, yoga or Hebrew necessary:  everyone is welcome just as you are.
  • Vegetarian lunch included
  • Please bring your own yoga mat and any other personal yoga props you use
  • We will have yoga release forms to sign at the retreat  
  • Cancellation Policy: prior to January 4, fees will be refunded for cancellations minus a $30 processing fee. There will be no refunds or cancellations after January 4, 2014.

About our teachers and organizers:

Sheila Peltz Weinberg photo

Rabbi Sheila Peltz Weinberg: Nationally recognized pioneer in Jewish contemplative practice in this country.  She has worked in the Jewish community in multiple educational capacities for over 40 years, twenty-eight years as a rabbi. She is a founder of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, where she teaches Torah through the lens of mindfulness practice and yoga. Her writing includes essays on contemporary issues of social justice, poetry, Torah and prayer commentaries and she has written a memoir: Surprisingly Happy: An Atypical Religious Memoir. She is a developer and leader of the Jewish Mindfulness Teacher Training program.  She is a prolific and profound poet whose work has been widespread. Her teaching style is warm and real, and she is hysterically funny.

Rabbi Myriam Klotz: Rabbi Myriam Klotz is a co-founder and co-director of The Yoga and Jewish Spirituality Teacher Certification Program at Elat Chayyim Jewish Spiritual Retreat Center, and is the Director of the Spirituality Initiative at HUC-JIR in New York. She has served as director of Yoga and Embodied Practices at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality for ten years.   A certified yoga teacher and yoga therapist, she writes and teaches about the body and Jewish healing nationally. She received her B.A. from Brown University and graduated from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.  Her recordings include Each and Every Day: Yoga and Meditation for Jewish Spirituality.  Myriam is a gifted teacher with enormous warmth, depth, and heart. 

Jill profileRabbi Jill Zimmerman: Founder of the Jewish Mindfulness Network and a community rabbi in Los Angeles.  She teaches widely on Jewish spirituality and mindfulness, teaching classes and leading seminars and retreats.  She is devoted to creating access to profound Jewish wisdom, and paths to wholeness and holiness.  She is a graduate of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s Rabbinic program and is certified as a Jewish Mindfulness teacher. With a background in group and organizational development, training and national leadership in the Reform movement, she found her way “home” and began rabbinic school at age 47. She was ordained by Hebrew Union College.  She can be reached at http://www.ravjill.com and is happy to accompany couples and individuals on their journeys – getting married, naming babies, spiritual conversations and learning.

wendy 2Rabbi Wendy Spears: Community rabbi in Los Angeles specializing in contemporary and spiritual weddings, funerals, and baby naming ceremonies. She serves as a resource for navigating the Jewish community, fast and filling Jewish cooking, and fashioning a Jewish way of living in the home and individually. A graduate of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, she was a pioneer in Jewish spirituality and mindfulness work. Find her at http://www.rabbiwendy.com/
